Per sachet Macrogol 4000 64 g, KCl 0.75 g, saccharin Na 0.1 g, Na bicarbonate 1.68 g, NaCl 1.46 g, anhydrous Na sulphate 5.7 g
Indications/Uses
Clearing of bowels in prep for endoscopic & radiologic exam & colonic surgery.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 sachet dissolved in 1 L of water. 3-4 L of oral soln are required to obtain an effective lavage.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Dehydration, severe heart failure, active Ca or any other colonic disease causing fragility of the mucosa, actual or suspected ileus or intestinal occlusion, perforated intestinal tract or risk of perforation, gastric emptying disorders, toxic colitis or toxic megacolon.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ electrolyte abnormalities. Concomitant medications that increase risk of fluid & electrolytes disturbances eg, altered renal function, cardiac insufficiency or treated concomitantly w/ diuretics. Elderly in frail general condition & patients w/ aspiration tendency, bedridden or w/ altered neurological function &/or motor disorders.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhoea. Nausea & vomiting at the beginning of treatment which stops w/ continued use. Abdominal pain & distension.
Drug Interactions
Other oral treatments may not be absorbed due to diarrhea provoked by Fortrans (take >2 hr before). Partially affected efficacy for medicines w/ small therapeutic range or short t½.
