Indications/Uses
Symptomatic treatment of constipation in adults & childn ≥6 mth.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥8 yr 1-2 sachets 10 g daily. Childn from 4-8 yr 2-4 sachets 4 g daily, 1-4 yr 1-2 sachets 4 g daily, 6 mth-1 yr 1 sachet 4 g daily. Max duration: 3 mth.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Dissolve contents of each sachet in a glass of water.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Severe inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease), toxic megacolon, digestive perforation or risk of perforation, ileus or suspicion of intestinal obstruction or symptomatic stenosis, painful abdominal syndromes of undetermined reason.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity. Rule out organic disorder prior to initiation. Not to be taken by patients w/ fructose intolerance. Concomitant use w/ diuretics. Hepatic & renal impairment. Neurologically impaired childn w/ oromotor dysfunction. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal pain, diarrhoea. Adults: Abdominal distention, nausea.
Drug Interactions
May interfere w/ absorption of other simultaneously administered drugs (take at least 2 hr apart). Decreased efficacy of medicinal products w/ narrow therapeutic index or short t½ eg, digoxin, anti-epileptics, coumarins, immunosuppressive agents.
