Indications and Dosage
Oral
Corticosteroid therapy
Adult: As free alcohol: 5-100 mg daily.

Topical/Cutaneous
Corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses
Adult: As cream/oint containing 0.25% of the caproate or 0.25% of the free alcohol or pivalate ester. Apply thinly once daily-bid.
Contraindications
Systemic infection; widespread plaque psoriasis, untreated fungal or viral skin lesions; infants <1 yr. Rosacea; perioral dermatitis and acne vulgaris.
Special Precautions
Adrenal suppression (growth retardation possibly irreversible); elderly, adolescents, child; history of tuberculosis, hypertension, recent MI; hepatic and renal failure; diabetes mellitus; osteoporosis; glaucoma, corneal perforation; severe affective disorders, epilepsy; peptic ulcer; hypothyroidism; history of steroid myopathy; pregnancy, lactation. Avoid contact with eyes.
Adverse Reactions
Severe pituitary-adrenal-axis suppression, Cushing's syndrome, worsening of untreated infections, thinning of the skin, irreversible striae atrophicae and telangiectasia, dermatitis, acne, mild depigmentation, atrophy.
Potentially Fatal: Hypersensitivity.
