Contents
Per 100 mL Fe (III) hydroxide polymaltose complex equiv to elemental Fe 1 g
Indications/Uses
Fe-deficiency anaemia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 10 mL daily. Childn 5 mL daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, haemochromatosis, haemosiderosis, thalassemia, sideroblastic anaemia, chronic haemolysis, or lead-induced anaemia, repeated blood transfusions.
Adverse Reactions
GI discomfort, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, epigastric pain, black stools.
Drug Interactions
Decreased absorption w/ Zn salts, tetracyclines, acetohydroxamic acid, trientine & Ca- & Mg-containing compd (including antacids & mineral supplements), bicarbonates, carbonates, oxalates or phosphates. Formation of toxic complexes w/ dimercaprol. Delayed response w/ systemic chloramphenicol. Absorption increased w/ ascorbic acid & citric acid.
