Indications/Uses
Emergency contraception w/in 72 hr of unprotected sexual intercourse or contraceptive failure.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 tab taken w/in 12 hr & not later than 72 hr after unprotected intercourse. May be taken at any moment during the menstrual cycle unless menstrual bleeding is overdue. Another tab should be taken if vomiting occurs w/in 3 hr of intake.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Not to be used as conventional contraception or replacement for regular contraceptive method. Severe malabsorption syndromes eg, Crohn's disease. Not to be taken by patients w/ galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption. Not recommended in severe hepatic dysfunction. Not recommended in patients at risk of ectopic pregnancy (previous history of salpingitis or ectopic pregnancy). Not to be given during pregnancy. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache; nausea, lower abdominal pain; bleeding disturbances; fatigue. Dizziness; diarrhoea, vomiting; delayed/irregular menstruation, breast tenderness.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced metabolism w/ liver enzyme inducers. Reduced plasma levels w/ efavirenz, barbiturates (including primidone), phenytoin, carbamazepine, St. John's wort, rifampicin, ritonavir, rifabutin, griseofulvin. Inhibited ciclosporin metabolism. Increased risk of cyclosporin toxicity.
