Indications and Dosage

Ophthalmic
Seasonal allergic conjunctivitis

Adult: As 0.05% emedastine difumarate soln: Instill 1 drop to the affected eye(s) up to 4 times daily.
Child: ≥3 yr Same as adult dose.

Special Precautions

Lactation. Not indicated for contact lens-related irritation.

Adverse Reactions

Significant: Corneal infiltrates.
Nervous: Headache, asthenia, abnormal dreams.
GI: Dysgeusia.
Ophthalmologic: Blurred vision, ocular burning, stinging, discomfort, dryness, pruritus, and hyperemia; corneal staining, foreign body sensation, keratitis, lacrimation.
Resp: Rhinitis, sinusitis.
Dermatologic: Dermatitis.

This drug may cause blurred vision or other visual disturbances, if affected, do not drive or operate machinery.

Description:
Mechanism of Action: Emedastine is a selective histamine (H₁) receptor antagonist for ophthalmic use.
Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption: Minimally absorbed.
Excretion: Elimination half-life: 10 hr.
