Special Precautions
Renal impairment; heart failure; child (short-term treatment only and monitor bone growth); lactation; skin test prior to administration.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances; tingling of the hands; skin rash; unpleasant taste; inflammatory reactions at Inj site; urinary frequency; tremor; transient hypocalcaemia (parenteral).
Drug Interactions
Cardiac glycosides.
Action
Description:
Mechanism of Action: Elcatonin, a synthetic analogue of eel calcitonin, inhibits osteoclastic bone resorption. It is used in the treatment of diseases characterized by high bone turnover eg, Paget's disease of bone and as an adjunct in the treatment of severe hypercalcaemia.
