Doxycycline HCl
Indications/Uses
Infections caused by susceptible strains of gm +ve & -ve bacteria; acne vulgaris.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Acute infection 200 mg on 1st day of treatment. Maintenance: 100 mg daily. Severe infections 200 mg daily. Childn <50 kg 4 mg/kg on 1st day of treatment. Maintenance: 2 mg/kg daily. Severe infections Max: 4 mg/kg daily. Childn >50 kg Adult dose. Acne vulgaris 50 mg daily for 6-12 wk. Acute gonococcal anterior urethritis in male Single dose of 300 mg or 100 mg bd for 2-4 days. Acute gonococcal infection in female 100 mg bd. Primary & secondary syphilis 300 mg daily in divided doses for ≥10 days. Uncomplicated urethral, endocervical or rectal infections due to chlamydia Adult 100 mg bd for 7 days.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ full glass of water & remain upright for at least 30 min. Avoid taking w/ dairy products.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Hepatic or renal impairment. Monitor haematopoietic, renal & hepatic functions w/ long-term therapy. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhoea, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, glossitis, dysphagia, enterocolitis, inflammatory lesions in the anogenital region; rash, photosensitivity, hypersensitivity reactions, blood dyscrasias.
Drug Interactions
Anticoagulants, penicillin, potentially hepatotoxic drugs, antacids.
