Indications and Dosage
Oral
Reversible airways obstruction
Adult: 15 mg/kg every 6 hr.
Renal Impairment
Use with caution.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach. Take 1 hr before or 1 hr after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Peptic ulceration, hyperthyroidism, hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias or other CV diseases, epilepsy, hepatic dysfunction, chronic alcoholism, acute febrile illness; smoking; neonates; elderly; pregnancy, lactation; impaired renal function.
Adverse Reactions
GI irritation and disturbances, CNS stimulation, headache, anxiety, restlessness, dizziness, tremor, palpitations.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid; xanthines (additive effects).
Action
Description:
Mechanism of Action: Diprophylline is a theophylline derivative which is used similarly to theophylline as a bronchodilator.
Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption: Rapidly absorbed from the GI tract.
Distribution: Distributed into breast milk.
Excretion: Mainly excreted unchanged in the urine. Elimination half-life: About 2 hr.
