Indications and Dosage
Topical/Cutaneous
Scabies
Adult: As 10% cream/lotion: Apply a thin layer uniformly and massage thoroughly onto the whole body from neck to toes after bathing and drying. Repeat application once daily, preferably in the evening, for a total of 3-5 days.
Child: <3 yr Apply once daily w/ medical supervision; ≥3 yr Same as adult dose.

Topical/Cutaneous
Pruritic skin disorders
Adult: As 10% cream/lotion: Apply gently onto affected area(s) bid or tid.
Child: <3 yr Apply once daily w/ medical supervision; ≥3 yr Same as adult dose.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Acute exudative dermatoses.
Special Precautions
Childn. Pregnancy and lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Significant: Local hypersensitivity reaction and irritation.
Nervous: Localised warm feeling.
Dermatologic: Contact dermatitis, pruritus, rash.
Patient Counseling Information
Avoid application to the face, eyes, mouth, or on acutely inflamed, denuded, or weeping skin.
Action
Description:
Mechanism of Action: Crotamiton is an acaricide agent that acts on the motor system of mites (e.g. Sarcoptes scabiei) through irreversible cessation of spontaneous movements. Additionally, it has antipruritic effects through inhibition of histamine, serotonin, and PAR-2.
Onset: Antipruritic effects: 6-10 hr.
Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption: Rapidly penetrates into the skin; systemically absorbed. Time to peak plasma concentration: 4-10 hr.
Excretion: Via urine (4.8-8.8%).
