Clarithromycin
Indications/Uses
Nasopharyngeal, lower resp tract, skin & soft tissue infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 250 mg 12 hrly, may be increased up to 500 mg 12 hrly in severe infections. Duration: 6-14 days. Renal impairment ½ adult dose. Max: 14 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to macrolides. Concomitant therapy w/ terfenadine.
Special Precautions
Hepatic impairment, renal failure. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI & CNS disturbances, headache, altered taste, transient elevated liver enzymes, allergic reactions.
Drug Interactions
Carbamazepine, theophylline, digoxin, warfarin, terfenadine.
