Indications and Dosage
Topical/Cutaneous
Antiseptic
Adult: As cetrimide 0.5% or 1% cream, or 1% or 2% lotion: Apply liberally to the affected area(s) as required. As cetrimide 0.5% spray solution: Spray to the affected area(s) 2-3 times daily.
Incompatibility
Incompatible with anionic surfactants, soaps, bentonite, iodine, phenylmercuric nitrate, alkali hydroxides.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Adverse Reactions
Significant: Hypersensitivity (prolonged and repeated use).
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Localised contact dermatitis; skin irritation, sensitisation, or dryness.
Patient Counseling Information
Avoid application on weeping or badly inflamed skin.
Action
Description:
Mechanism of Action: Cetrimide is a quaternary ammonium antiseptic with bactericidal action against gram positive and some gram negative (at higher concentrations) organisms, but ineffective against bacterial spore. It has variable antifungal activity and effective against some viruses.
