Action
Properties and effects: Research shows that glucosamine may help reduce joint inflammation and swelling, increase joint mobility, and provide temporary relief from the pain of osteoarthritis.
Mode of action and pharmacokinetics: Glucosamine is formed in the body from glucose and the amino acid glutamine. It is a key part of the structure of cartilage, which is essential for proper joint function.
As patients get older, cartilage becomes more susceptible to breakdown and damage, which may result in the typical symptoms of osteoarthritis. Glucosamine tablets can be an important additional source of this component of cartilage as patient age. Glucosamine has been shown to regenerate cartilage and to exhibit some anti-inflammatory effects.
Blackrnores Glucosamine 1500 is a high potency tablet that has been specially formulated to provide a clinically proven dose of glucosamine in a convenient one-a-day tablet. Blackmores Glucosamine 1500 is recommended for those with osteoarthritis and joint pain. Researchers found that there was a 50% improvement in pain and mobility after a period of two weeks using glucosamine sulfate at a dose of 1500 mg per day.
In the event of severe pain, it is advisable to take an anti-inflammatory drug during the first days of treatment.
Glucosamine taken orally is 90% absorbed in the small intestine. The glucosamine concentration in the body peaks between 6 and 24 hours after consuming. Glucosamine diffuses into several tissues, in particular bone and articular cartilage. It is mainly excreted in the urine.
