Indications/Uses
Monotherapy or in combination w/ tamsulosin for treatment & control of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men w/ enlarged prostate to improve symptoms, reduce the risk of acute urinary retention & the need for BPH-related surgery.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult male (including elderly) 0.5 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole, do not chew/open.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to dutasteride, other 5α-reductase inhibitors. Severe hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Women, childn & adolescent.
Special Precautions
Monitor for obstructive uropathy in patients w/ large residual urinary vol &/or severely diminished urinary flow. Perform digital rectal exam & serum PSA level for prostate cancer detection. Changes in breast tissue eg, lumps or nipple discharge; male breast cancer. Avoid donating blood until at least 6 mth after last dose. Combination therapy w/ α-blocker. Mild to moderate hepatic impairment. Avoid use in women, childn & adolescents. Pregnancy or potential pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Impotence, decreased libido, ejaculation & breast disorders.
Drug Interactions
Increased blood conc & decreased clearance w/ CYP3A4 inhibitors eg, verapamil, diltiazem.
