Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 400-1,600 mcg daily in 2-4 divided doses. Childn ≥7 yr 200-800 mcg daily in 2-4 divided doses, 2-7 yr 200-400 mcg daily in 2-4 divided doses.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if paradoxical bronchospasm, oral candidiasis occur. Not intended for rapid relief of acute asthma episodes. Active or quiescent pulmonary TB, fungal, viral airway infections; acute asthma exacerbations. Cushing's syndrome, Cushingoid features, adrenal suppression, decreased bone mineral density, cataract, glaucoma, psychomotor hyperactivity, sleep disorders, anxiety, depression or aggression. Monitor HPA axis functions regularly. Transferring from oral to inhaled steroids. Avoid abrupt discontinuation. High doses or prolonged use. Avoid concomitant use w/ ketoconazole, itraconazole, HIV PIs or other potent CYP3A4 inhibitors. Pregnancy & lactation. Growth retardation in childn & adolescents.
Adverse Reactions
Oropharyngeal candidiasis; cough, hoarseness, throat irritation.
Drug Interactions
Increased systemic exposure by CYP3A4 inibitors eg, ketoconazole, itraconazole. Raised plasma conc & enhanced effects w/ oestrogen & contraceptive steroids. False results in ACTH stimulation test.
