Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
300-600 mg daily in 2-3 divided doses. Severe depression Initially 300 mg daily, may be increased to 600 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Acute confusional states. Co-administration w/ selegiline, triptans, pethidine, tramadol. bupropion, dextrometrophan, linezolid. Not to be used in ped.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity. Monitor for clinical worsening, suicidal behaviour or thoughts & unusual changes in behaviour. Depressive patients w/ schizophrenic or schizoaffective psychoses, history of suicide-related events or suicidal ideation. Thyrotoxicosis, phaeochromocytoma. Avoid consumption of large amount of tyramine-rich food. Co-administration w/ multi-drug antidepressants, clomipramine. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Hepatic disease. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn & adolescent.
Adverse Reactions
Rarely, hyponatraemia, confusional state, increased hepatic enzymes.
Drug Interactions
Potentiated effects of opiates. Prolonged metabolism by cimetidine. Intensified & prolonged action of sympathomimetic agents. Serotonergic overactivity w/ clomipramine. Tyramine, TCAs or other antidepressants.
