Indications/Uses
Symptomatic treatment of hip or knee OA w/ delayed effect.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially 1 cap once daily for 1st 2-4 wk, after which 1 cap bd.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Swallow whole w/ water, do not open cap.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to diacerein or substances w/ similar structure. Inflammatory intestinal disease (ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease). Intestinal obstruction or pseudo-obstruction. Current &/or history of liver disease. Severe renal insufficiency. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if elevated hepatic enzymes or suspected signs or symptoms of liver damage are detected. Not recommended in patients w/ rapidly progressive hip OA. Diarrhoea. Not to be taken w/ laxatives. Concomitant use w/ diuretics, cardiac glycosides (eg, digitoxin, digoxin). Galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, abdominal pain, frequent bowel movements, flatulence. Dark colouration of urine.
Drug Interactions
Decreased digestive absorption w/ Mg-, Al-, Ca-containing antacids. Increased risk of arrhythmia w/ high-ceiling loop & thiazide diuretics &/or cardiac glycosides eg, digitoxin, digoxin.
