Dosage/Direction for Use
SC/IV Individualized dosage ranging from 0.3-1 IU/kg daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Administer w/in 30 min before meals or snack containing carbohydrates.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Not to be used in insulin pumps. Diabetic ketoacidosis; hypoglycaemia; concomitant illness, infections & feverish conditions; diseases affecting adrenal, pituitary or thyroid gland; inj site reactions; lipodystrophy & cutaneous amyloidosis. Physical activity or diet changes. Monitor blood glucose. Avoid accidental mix-ups w/ other insulin prep. Transferring to another type or brand of insulin. Combination w/ thiazolidinediones in CHF patients. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Renal & hepatic diseases. Intensified blood glucose control & monitoring during pregnancy. Dosage or diet adjustment during lactation.
Drug Interactions
Reduced insulin requirement w/ oral antidiabetics, MAOIs, non-selective β-blockers, ACE inhibitors, salicylates, anabolic steroids, sulphonamides. Increased insulin requirement w/ OCs, thiazides, glucocorticoids, thyroid hormones, sympathomimetics, growth hormone, danazol. Masked hypoglycaemia symptoms & delayed recovery from hypoglycaemia by β-blockers. Increased or decreased insulin requirement w/ octreotide/lanreotide. Intensified or reduced insulin hypoglycaemic effect by alcohol.
